- Description:
- ● Hose barb fittings are pipe fittings with threads on one side and a hose shank with barbs on the other side.
- ● It has a hex nut shape between the pipe thread and the hose shank portion.
- Used for:
- ● A barbed hose fitting, also called a hose barb, is used to install pipe threads into a hose or tube.
- ● These barbed pipe fittings are used to connect hoses and tubes to pipes, fittings and equipment.
- Advantage:
- ● The advantage of a hose barb over a KC Nipple is that they have a hex nut near the thread.
- ● This makes them easy to tighten or loosen, and therefor better suited to situations where they may be removed and re-installed.
- To Install:
- ● Thread the male thread into a female thread of the same size.
- ● Insert the hose shank into a hose or tube and fasten with a hose clamp or crimp collar.
- Sizing:
- ● A hose barb fitting is sized according to the size of the hose and thread it will connect to.
- ● For Example: a 1/2" barb fitting will install in a 1/2" hose or tube and thread into a 1/2" pipe thread.
- ● A barbed hose reducer is sized according to the size of the thread first followed by the size of the hose shank.
- ● For Example: a 3/4" to 1/2" hose barbed reducer will have a 3/4" thread and a 1/2" hose shank.
- Also Called:
- ● NPT Barb Fitting.
- ● Barbed Hose Fitting.
- ● Hose Connector Barb.
- More Options:
- ● Another option are King Nipples which is also a hose nipple without a hex nut near the pipe thread.

- Material of Construction:
- ● Constructed out of Stainless Steel 304 & 316.
More Information:
A hose barb is a threaded hose fitting used in fluid handling systems designed to connect hoses and tubes to fittings, pipes, pumps, valves or other components. This enables hoses to be connected to a system with threads. A barbed hose fitting is shaped like a cylinder with threads on one end, and a hose shank with barbs on the other end. The hex shaped nut enables the threaded barb to be tightened with more force, and this also makes it easier for the fitting to be loosened and removed. The external thread of the barb fitting will thread into a corresponding female pipe thread of the same size while the hose shank will install into a hose of the same sized diameter. The hose shank portion has a series of barbs or ridges along its cylindrical shape that grips the inside of a hose or tube which ensures a tight seal and prevents leaks. To install the hose shank portion simply slide it into a hose of the same diameter size and then fasten with hose clamps or a crimp collar. In this way, threads can effectively be installed onto a hose end. These NPT barb fittings have tapered NPT threads (National Pipe Threads) , which form a secure and water-proof connection when properly installed. This makes barbed fittings ideal for a wide range of industrial applications, including in manufacture, construction, agriculture, plumbing, irrigation, fuel and oil, as well as food and beverage, wherever a hose or tube needs to be adapted to a thread. Manufactured out of stainless steel 304 & 316 making them durable, rust resistant and corrosion resistance.
